Albany, NY (WIBX) - New York's Environmental Protection Fund is providing 53 non-profit land trusts with grants to promote land conservation and education programs.

The Conservation Partnership Grants total $1.4 million and were awarded to groups across the state, including five from Central New York and the Mohawk Valley. Private and local funding will add an additional $1.2 million.

Among the land trusts listed are the Cazenovia Preservation Foundation and the Great Swamp Conservancy, both in Madison County.

DEC Commissioner, Joe Martens, says the grants are important in "improving quality of life by enabling environmental, social and economic improvement projects in urban, rural and suburban settings."

This year's grants ranged from $5,000 to $75,000. The Central New York and Mohawk Valley region's five grants totaled $80,300.
