An infant has died after being mauled by a dog in the Town of Marshall.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office say the 11-month old was attacked by the family dog.  The Sheriff's Office initially reported the dog was a pit bull, but the dog has been identified as a Boxer-Terrier mix.

They say the dog was in the living room playing with 32-year old Lisa Cittadino's 12, 10 and 7-year old daughters and her 11-month old son when the attack happened.

Authorities say when she saw that Diesel was attacking her son and she frantically tried to get the dog to release its grip. Once she was finally able to do that, she secured the dog and first responders arrived on scene to provide medical attention.

The child died at a local hospital from injuries to his neck and facial area.

The dog was taken into custody by the Town of Verona Animal Control Officer and will be euthanized.

Deputies say there had been no previous aggressive issues with the dog against the children in the two years the family has owned the dog.

During an interview with the children, it was learned that the 11-month old was near the dog's food dish and investigators say that may have led to the attack.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
