The Utica College men's hockey team opened the season at home on Saturday night with a 4-2 win over Castleton State University in front of a full house at the Aud.

All four goals scored by the Pioneers came from freshmen.  Kyle Lajeunesse score the first gaol just under the 13 minute mark of the first period.  Dalton Carter score two in the second period, and Brent Wold score one more late in the second.

UC senior goalie Mike Taffe finished the night with 22 saves in net for UC, including 12 in the third period alone. Castellation's Thomas Shelley stopped 32 total shot in net for the Spartans, while the Pioneers earned a 36-24 shot advantage.

UC returns to action back at the Aud on Friday night when the Pioneers host Nazareth College for an ECAC West Conference contest at 7 p.m.
