New Hartford, NY (WIBX) - The New Hartford Police Department investigated a motor vehicle accident Friday afternoon that caused the temporary closure of Higby Road.  The accident occurred around 5 pm at the intersection of Higby Road and Mohawk Street.

According to police, the accident occurred when a vehicle operated by 83- year old  F.P. Senif-Nichols of West Winfield, made a left turn from Mohawk St onto Higby Rd, right into the path of an eastbound vehicle traveling on Higby Road.

The collision caused heavy damage to both vehicles. Senif-Nichols and her passenger were
trapped in their vehicle and the jaws of life needed to be used to help get them out.

No injuries were reported by any of the individuals involved.

Senif-Nichols was issued a traffic ticket for Failure to Yield Right of Way at a Stop Sign and will answer the ticket in town court next month.
