ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (AP) — An interstate highway in eastern New York has reopened after being shut down for hours by a fatal crash.

State police say the accident occurred around 8 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 88 in the Schenectady County town of Rotterdam, 15 miles northwest of Albany.

Troopers say a westbound vehicle crossed the median and struck an eastbound vehicle head-on. One of the vehicles came to rest on top of a guard rail.

Police say two people have died and four others are being treated for injuries.

Troopers haven't released any other information.

I-88 was shut down in both directions until around 4 a.m. Monday.
