FORT ANN, N.Y. (AP) — Two upstate New York battlefields are getting federal restoration funds.

The Town of Fort Ann near the Vermont border is receiving $176,000 from the Department of Interior for the restoration of Fort Ann Battlefield, site of a 1777 engagement between the retreating Continental Army and British forces.

New York state is receiving $684,000 for the restoration of the Sackets Harbor Battlefield on Lake Ontario. Sackets Harbor was a center for American naval and military activity during the War of 1812.

The state and Fort Ann are working in partnership with the Civil War Trust, which also helps save battlefields from the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. The Agricultural Stewardship Association is an additional partner in the Fort Ann project.
