Twenty-six police officers from across the state who made the ultimate sacrifice were honored today in Albany.

The names of the officers were added to the New York State Police Officers' Memorial in a ceremony at the Empire State Plaza.

Among those recognized at today's ceremony was State Trooper Donald Fredenburg, Jr. of Utica, who died while taking part in a physical training run at the University of Albany last March.

“Our treasured way of life functions because of the underlying trust that we as civilians have in our law enforcement,” said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul. “Today we honor the service and sacrifice of men and women who protect the freedoms that have made our nation and our State the shining beacon of Democracy envied by the world.”

The names of 1,413 officers are now chiseled into the memorial. The memorial recognizes officers from 141 police agencies and six federal agencies.

The memorial's complete Roll of Honor is posted on New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services website.
