AAA is estimating 41 million people will be traveling at least 50 miles to their destination for the 4th of July holiday weekend this year, that's a 14% increase from Memorial Day weekend just a few weeks ago.
Ed Welsh of AAA Central New York says more people are hitting the road despite 4th of July gas prices that are the highest they have been since reaching $4.25 in 2008.

Welsh says gas prices in the Utica-Rome area are up $0.20 from last year at this time.

He said the travel increase is partly because the holiday falls on a weekend this year and more people are using credit to finance their travel plans.

Welsh also said that because of high winds and surf, anyone traveling south to the Carolinas or Virginia Beach area should be cautious of Tropical Storm Arthur.
