Over $5 million in federal funding is headed to Griffiss International Airport in Rome.

Congressman Richard Hanna says the funding comes from the FAA's Airport Improvement Program and the Military Airport Program.  Three grants totaling $5.1 million were awarded for upgrades at the facility.

The money will be used for several projects, including the rehabilitation of buildings, taxiways and a nose dock hangar.

“I am pleased that Griffiss received this much-needed grant funding to improve taxiways that are in need of rehabilitation and make critical repairs to the nose dock hangar,” Rep. Hanna said. “Griffiss plays an important role in Rome, in Oneida County and in our region as a whole. These upgrades will help ensure the planes landing and taking off at Griffiss complete their travels safely.”
