Rome, NY - An Oneida County cemetery is being recommended for the State and National Registers of Historic Places.

Wright Settlement Cemetery in Rome, still in use today, is an 8.7 acre lot which is home to about 3,000 headstones. The earliest tombstone is dated 1806.

Most of the historical value of the site is derived from the history of the families who settled in the town of Rome after the Revolutionary War. Most of the other information about that period of history were lost to the development of the Rome Air Depot in 1941.

The state historic preservation officer still has to approve the recommendation.
