Work is set to begin next week on an $8.9 million project to reconstruct a portion of the Griffiss Veterans Memorial Parkway in Rome.

The project will replace the existing two-lane highway with a four-lane divided highway from Ellsworth Road to Perimeter Road.

It will also include the reconstruction of roundabouts at the Floyd Avenue and Hangar Road intersections.

Governor Andrew Cuomo says the project will increase safety and accessibility to the Griffiss Business and Technology Park.

“Investing in our transportation network is critical to meeting the demands of our modern economy and ensuring safe travel for New Yorkers,” Cuomo said. “Thousands of Mohawk Valley residents depend on this Parkway, and these improvements will allow commuters to rely on it for safer and less congested travel for years to come.”

Motorists are expected to begin using the new alignment by the end of 2017, with project completion scheduled for the end of 2018.
