Two Schuyler residents are facing charges of Welfare Fraud after an investigation into unreported income.

Herkimer County Sheriff's say 52 year old Stephen Roman Sr., and his wife, 47 year old Ruth Roman were both arrested after a five-month investigation found that the Romans received a combined total of more than $16,000 in Welfare benefits.

Police say the Romans are self-employed metal scrappers and were not entitled to the Welfare benefits because of the unreported income they were getting from scrapping metal.

Both Romans were charged with Welfare Fraud, Grand Larceny and Offering a False Instrument for Filing.

Both were sent to the Herkimer County Jail on $2,500 bail each.
