The national blood supply is low and the American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley is asking everyone to donate.
According to Victoria Turner, Director of Public Relations, the summer is a low time for blood donors because of vacations and other family obligations, but she says the shelf life on blood is 56 days.
The universal blood type, O-negative is at critical levels and is being rationed at hospitals.
Upcoming blood drives include Saturday from 8:30 to 1:30 at the Westmoreland Town Hall, Monday from 1 to 6 at the United Methodist Church on Genesee Street in New Hartford and Tuesday from 9 to 2 at Hamilton College.
