Land Lord Association questions Mohawk Valley Water Board
Land Lord Association questions Mohawk Valley Water Board

The Utica common council is supporting the Utica Landlord association in their quest for a better water billing plan. The council is urging the Mohawk Valley Water Authority to lift the responsibillity of unpaid water bills from property owners of rental properties to tenants, and to replace the current quarterly billing system, to avoid outrageous delinquent water bills, by billing customers on a monthly basis. MVWA Executive Director Patrick Besher says it is state law and out of his hands. As far as monthly billing, Besher says the water authority has been working on a radio meter reading proceedure that may provide the resources needed to produce monthly water bills, but the technology would not be ready for at least another year, at the earliest.
