Mayor Brown Supports Online Petition to Stop New License Plate Requirement
Mayor Brown Supports Online Petition to Stop New License Plate Requirement

It's "nothing more than a cynical money grab." That's how Rome Mayor Jim Brown characterizes the state's plan to make all motorists purchase new license plates next year. Not only that, the plates will cost $25 dollars, which is $10 more than they currently cost. And, if you wish to keep your current license plate number...you can...for another $20.

Mayor Brown has added his name to an online petition opposing the requirement. The petition was started by the Clerk of St. Lawrence County, Patricia Ritchie. Brown is urging others join the opposition at www.nonewplates.com.

There are an estimated 10-million cars, trucks, trailers and ATV's in the state. The new requirement and price increase is expected to generate an additional $129-million for state coffers.
