In 1981 the San Diego Chargers traveled to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals in the AFC championship game. What they got was one of the coldest NFL games on record.

The Temperature at game time was -9 degrees with a wind chill of -59!

This weekend as Winter Storm 'Hercules' pounds the Midwest and the Northeast, temperatures are expected to drop to near-1981 playoff levels.

ESPN reporter Darren Rovell posted the Tweet below showing estimated temperatures for the Packers 49ers kickoff in Green Bay on Sunday. If these predictions are accurate, Cincinnati can certainly expect to see similar temperatures as 'Hercules' makes its way across the Northeast.

Below you can watch a clip from 1981's 'Freezer Bowl.' Note the tape over the ear-holes in players' helmets. Attempting to catch the football that day must have really hurt.
