LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) — Sierra Club President Aaron Mair will receive an award at the John Brown Farm State Historic Site in Lake Placid this weekend.

The Spirit of John Brown Freedom Award honors those whose work invokes the 19th-century abolitionist who dedicated his life to freeing slaves.

Mair's experience includes more than 30 years of environmental activism in Albany and nationally. He's an epidemiological analyst with the state Health Department.

Awards will also go to the immigrant-rights organization Migrant Justice and Don and Vivian Papson, founders of the North Country Underground Railroad Historical Association.

The annual John Brown Day event is being held Saturday afternoon.
