New York State Senator Fred Akshar is supporting efforts to bring agriculture into the classroom.

The Republican joined members of BOCES, Cornell Cooperative Extension and even a calf in the classroom at the Windsor Schools January 6 to announce the Growing Our Agri-Future program for area schools.

The program is aimed at helping students gain a greater appreciation for agriculture and its impact on the community.

Through the school year, students at Harpursville, Maine-Endwell, Owego Apalachin, Union Endicott and Windsor will be participating in 14 lessons a month ranging from learning about science and technology of agriculture and  touring farms to growing food at school gardens.
