Air Force Research Lab In Rome Has Substantial Economic Impact
The Air Force Research Laboratory Information Directorate in Rome had a substantial economic impact on the Utica-Rome area in 2017.
According to the Air Force, the total economic impact on the area that includes the five counties of Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Onondaga and Oswego was $392 million last year.
That's a $37 million dollar increase over 2016.
The Air Force Research Lab had a workforce of 782 military and civilian employees in 2017 and received the most funds in the history of the lab at $1.3 billion.
The Air Force estimates the Information Directorate was responsible for an additional 1,367 indirect jobs in the 5-county impact area.
The estimated annual dollar value of these local jobs created was $58 million.
