SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Officials in Syracuse will be announcing plans to create a local animal abuser registry.

Onondaga (ahn-uhn-DAH’-gah) County Sheriff Eugene Conway’s office says he will provide details on the county-wide initiative on Monday.

Onondaga County would join other counties that list people convicted of animal abuse. The existing registries are designed to keep people from selling or giving away animals to known abusers.

Conway will be joined by county lawmakers and animal advocates at the announcement.
