Archaeologists To Discuss Town’s Battlefield Study Project

LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (AP) — An Adirondack town where thousands of artifacts have been found during archaeological digs is holding a discussion on how residents can help preserve the area's rich history.

The Fort George Battlefield Project in a state park along the southern end of Lake George is being conducted by Rensselaer-based Hartgen Archaeological Associates. The town of Lake George received a federal battlefield protection grant last year to study the battleground's military history.

The site was the scene of fighting during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution.

On Tuesday evening at the Courthouse Museum, Hartgen will discuss the ongoing study. The archaeologists are inviting residents and history buffs to attend and bring any artifacts, maps, journals or other relevant items to show and share.
