Members of the architectural firm hired to design the new Downtown Utica hospital for Mohawk Valley System were in town this week.

They're starting to meet with MVHS employees to get input on the new hospital design.

Ryan Hullinger with NBBJ says while they're in the very early stages of the design process, the hospital will preserve the surrounding architecture of downtown.

NBBJ plans to work closely with the MVHS outreach team to consider community input during the design and construction phase of the hospital.

Hullinger says the hospital plans to set up a local design center where the architects, engineers and contractors will be based on a full-time basis.

The 750,000 square foot facility is expected to cost about $480 million.
