An Ava man is in custody following a shoplifting incident that turned physical. Rome Police say they responded to a report of a theft at the Rite Aid on Black River Boulevard in Rome.

Police say 22-year-old Aaron Croniser allegedly stole items from the store. When confronted by store employees, Croniser struck the employee and fled on foot. The employee was not injured.

Following an investigation Rome Police arrested Croniser and charged him with Robbery in the third degree. He is being held at the Rome lockup.
