ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A state audit has found problems in a New York state program that gives companies and non-profits low-cost power in exchange for promises to create or retain jobs.

The report released Monday by Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli found that the New York Power Authority made mistakes in determining the eligibility of some applicants and overstated the number of jobs retained by the program by nearly 30,000.

In a written response, the Power Authority disputed many details of the audit and said it has already implemented many of its recommendations. The agency says the program has already helped to create or retain more than 370,000 jobs.
