An audit by the State Comptroller's Office found 43% of the water produced by the Mohawk Valley Water Authority in 2014 was unaccounted for.

The audit recommends the authority continue its efforts to investigate the causes of excess water loss and take appropriate actions to reduce water loss.

MVWA officials believe the unaccounted-for water is due to under ground leaks caused by an aging water system infrastructure.

They say they will continue their "aggressive" program to locate and repair leaking water pipes.
