During its illustrious history, the Olympics has been a hotbed for controversy. It can be countries pulling out in some form of protest, the IOC banning athletes or competitors who will cause a storm of controversy.
They’re there to entertain the crowd, especially young fans, but occasionally a team mascot will get caught up in the moment and wind up the opposite of a crowd pleaser. And it’s not just fans who have gotten fed up with the mischief — some players have fought back against mascots who got on their nerves during ballgames
Mets’ fan Rafael Diaz just couldn’t help himself on Saturday night as he watched his beloved Nw York Mets celebrate their first-ever no-hitter on the field. Diaz leaped from the stands and joined the frenzy between the mound and home plate, and promptly got tackled and tased by team security.
“I was overcome with emotion, just being a die-hard Mets fan,” the 32-year-old Diaz explained after spening two nights behind bars. “I couldn’t help myself,” Diaz said. “I just wanted to be on the mound celebrating the no-hitter,” he added.
Former New England Patriots running back-turned-commentator Craig James failed in his bid for the Texas Senate seat vacated by Kay Bailey Hutchison. In fact, James wasn’t even close in the race that left him a distant fourth place in the GOP primary.
