More than 100 people are presumed dead after an Air Algerie Jetliner went down in North Africa on Thursday.

The plane was headed for Algiers when it reportedly crashed in a remote area during a sandstorm .

The U.S. State Department says it is not aware of any American passengers on board, but the plane's list of 116 passengers reportedly includes at least 50 French citizens.

NBC News confirmed that the crash site has been located in Mali.
