The B-52s are coming to Fort Drum. No, not the pop group from the 80s, but B-52 bombing aircraft. They are coming to New York State on a special training mission from their home at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota.

On Thursday, June 22nd, 2017 between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. the military heavy artillery aircraft will be dropping 500 pound bombs at Fort Drum's range. Local residents will be hearing louder than normal range noise coming from the area during the training period.

According to a release from the State Division of Military and Naval Affairs,

The aircraft are conducting training in conjunction with the Air Force's 20th Air Support Operations Squadron which provides support to the 10th Mountain Division. The 174th Attack Wing of the New York Air National Guard manages operations at Range 48 which is Fort Drum's Joint Air to Ground Range and is used by aircraft from across the region.

People with noise concerns are asked to call the New York State Airspace Hotline at 1-800-228-3567.
