NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) — Police in upstate New York say a baby has a fractured skull after the boy fell from a second-floor opening at a dilapidated home.

Niagara Falls police who were called to the home Wednesday learned that the 11-month-old baby fell onto a concrete walkway between two homes. The child was conscious and crying while he was being treated at the scene by firefighters. The boy was taken to a hospital in Buffalo, where he's being treated for a fractured skull.

Detectives say the opening may have been a window at one time, but is now more of an opening to the outside.

Police say the child's mother was interviewed. They declined to discuss what she said.

City building inspectors were called to the scene and condemned the home.
