Rumor: New ‘Batman’ Movie With Ben Affleck Eyed for 2019
Okay, Batman fans. This is a big one.
According to a new rumor, Ben Affleck will follow up major roles in ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘ and ‘Justice League‘ with a solo outing as the Caped Crusader in a film with the simple (and perfect) working title, ‘The Batman.’
But you’ve got to wait five years, because it’s apparently eyeing a theatrical release in 2019.
The rumor (and we can’t emphasize the RUMOR part of this rumor strongly enough) comes from the scoop hounds over at Latino Review. They report that Affleck will follow up his battle with Henry Cavill’s Superman to direct and star in the gangster movie ‘Live by Night’ before donning the cape and cowl again in 2017 or ’18 for production on ‘The Batman.’ Considering Affleck’s success as a director in recent years, it’s easy to imagine a scenario where he also signs on to direct.
If this sounds kind of crazy, that’s because it is. Marvel and Disney are infamous for planning their slate of superhero movies years in advance, but 2019 sounds like a distant science-fiction date that doesn’t actually exist. We can barely comprehend living in 2019, let alone watching a movie called ‘The Batman’ starring Ben Affleck in 2019.
If all of the recent rumors are true, ‘The Batman’ will hit theaters after ‘Batman v Superman,’ ‘Justice League,’ ‘Shazam,’ ‘Wonder Woman,’ a Flash and Green Lantern team-up movie, and ‘Man of Steel 2′ have reinvented the cinematic DC comic book universe. But let’s see what Warner Bros. has to say at Comic-Con next month. Until then, don’t spare the salt.
All we know for sure is that Affleck’s take on Gotham City’s Dark Knight will be inspired by Frank Miller’s comic ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ and will debut on May 6, 2016, with the arrival of ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.’
