Binghamton Police Officer Hurt in Crash

A Binghamton Police Officer is recovering from a head injury after being involved in a crash near the Broome County Family Court building.

Officials say two squad cars were headed east on Hawley Street before 7 p.m. November 2 when a witness reported a sport utility vehicle turning from Isbell Street onto Hawley Street hitting the second police car, sending it into the steps of the court employee entrance to the building.

The officer was treated at a local hospital for a possible concussion and released.

Officials say the main entrance to the court appears undamaged but there could be at least a portion of the steps at the employee entrance blocked off while damage is assessed.

The investigation is continuing.
