A city police department patrolman and an 81-year-old Binghamton man were injured in two-vehicle crash near the downtown governmental plaza.

Authorities say the collision happened just after 7:40 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Hawley and Isbell streets.

Investigators say a Binghamton police patrol vehicle driven by Patrolman Matthew Hodnik was responding to a call at the time of the crash.

Detectives say the police car was eastbound on Hawley Street with its emergency lights and siren activated when it collided with the second vehicle.

Hodnik was treated at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City and released. Police say the other driver was taken to a hospital by family members.

The city police vehicle came to a rest at the side of the Broome County Courthouse, causing extensive damage to the entrance.

The man who was driving the other car was issued a ticket for failure to yield.
