SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — A travel advisory for all waterways in Onondaga County has been issued for that central New York area.

Boaters are being advised to exercise heightened caution while navigating the waterways in the county because of elevated levels from recent heavy rains. The higher water levels and fast currents often create scenarios where trees and branches are below the water surface, while docks and other structures also can become submerged.

Until the water levels subside, boaters also are being encouraged to operate their craft at reduced speeds to avoid creating a big wake, which can cause erosion and shoreline damage.
