The body of a woman was pulled from the Barge Canal near Leland Avenue Thursday morning.

Utica Police Chief Mark Williams says the body was discovered by a passing boater, who called 911.

He says at this time, police do not know her identity or cause of death.  Williams wouldn't speculate on the woman's approximate age, but did say she was a white female.

Williams says they're not sure how long the body was in the water.

Williams says their investigation will include a check of missing persons reports.

He says an autopsy will be take place in the near future.
