The body of a young man pulled from the Susquehanna River in the Town of Union early March 30 has been identified as that of a 21 year old Tompkins County resident.

Broome County Emergency Services officials say they were flooded with phone calls once the description of the body aired in the news with people reporting the man was Ryan Bell of Groton.

Officials say Bell did not have a permanent address in Broome County and authorities are continuing to follow leads tracking Bell’s movements in Broome.

While officials say the incident does not appear suspicious at this time, there are still a lot of questions including what Bell was doing in Broome County, how he died and how he ended up in the river in Endwell.

Investigators are still asking anyone with information about Bell and his movements in the area to call the Detective Division at (607) 778-2053.

Bell’s body was spotted in the river off River road in Endwell shortly before 7 p.m. by a person observing the ice jams in the river.

It took recovery teams hours to reach the man’s body and pull him from the river due to the shifting ice.
