Utica, NY (WIBX) - We know them for their 15K but it was 10K that has Utica officials talking.

Boilermaker officials handed Utica Mayor Rob Palmieri a check for $10,000 to help pay for additional police needed on the street for this year's sold-out race.

Race Executive Director Tim Reed says the City's financial woes are well-known, and if the Race needs to pull its own this year it's just part of the teamwork that makes the event a success.

The gesture was noble but Reed says it was also practical considering the fact that the Boilermaker brings about 40,000 people together in Utica.

The 35th running of the Boilermaker takes place July 8, 2012.
