Citing low turnout and other factors, the Boilermaker Road Race is pulling the plug on the 3 mile Boilermaker Walk.

Boilermaker officials say there are no plans at this time to bring the event back.

Last year the walk took place on Saturday afternoon of race weekend and was held at MVCC, which is also the site of The Fitness Mill Health and Wellness Expo.

Officials cited logistical challenges including parking limitations, as well as steadily declining participation numbers as chief factors in the decision.

“This was a difficult decision to make but one that we have been putting a lot of thought into over the past few years,” said Boilermaker Race Director, Jim Stasaitis. “We understand that many people looked forward to the walk but we have decided that there are better ways to promote walking in this community. We are currently in the planning stages for an alternative walking event in May and hopefully we can share more information about that soon.”

The Boilermaker Walk started in 2001.

The 41st running of the Boilermaker Road Race will take place on Sunday, July 8th.
