Utica, NY (WIBX) - The Utica Fire Department responded to a fire on the first floor of the Catskill Spring Water building on Monday night.

At around 7:34 p.m., crews were called to the building located on the corner of Broad and Hubbell Streets, where they noticed flames coming out of the roof.

Deputy Chief, John Roman, says the fire had worked its way up the elevator shaft, but was quickly contained.

"The sprinkler systems were a tremendous help here," Roman said. "They kept the fire in check."

Roman says crews had the situation under control in about a half hour. He also says he isn't sure what sparked the fire, but more information should available in the morning.
