BREAKING: Fla. Man Accidentally Shoots Self At Super 8 Motel In Utica [UPDATE]

UPDATE 7:26 p.m.: The man has been identified as Kenneth Loope, 79, of Palm Bay, Florida.

Officials say Loope threw his jacket on top of the gun while it was on a dresser, causing it to shoot a bullet, hitting him in the abdomen.

Loope legally possessed the gun and no charges are expected.


6:00 p.m. – Utica Police are investigating a shooting at the Super 8 Motel on North Genesee Street.

At around 4:30 this afternoon, officers received a call that a man had been shot. When they arrived, they found the victim with a wound to his upper body.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

More details should be released tomorrow.
