Crews from Herkimer, Ilion, Frankfort and Mohawk were on hand during an afternoon fire at the former Morgan-Duofold building in Ilion.

Ilion Fire Chief James Trevett said a call came in at around 4:20, and when crews arrived at 7 Spruce Street, two buildings were on fire.

It took about an hour to put out the flames, which started on the first floor of one building and in the basement and first floor of the other. Both fires spread to the second floor.

No one was injured during the incident, but Trevett says the fire is definitely suspicious.

"With that many fires, I don't think it was an accelerant," Trevett said. "Basically, what they used was material that they found in the building, they got different piles going in different places, trying to get the place going."

The investigation is still ongoing.
