UPDATE: 05/21/2015 9:55am Utica Police are releasing more information on a shots fired incident that occurred earlier this morning.

SWAT Team members executed a search warrant issued for 1645 Howard Avenue in Utica following an investigation into the alleged sale of drugs at the residence.

According to a posting on the UPD's Facebook page "While searching the location, officers were confronted by a vicious pitbull who charged at them. An officer fired and struck the dog."

A suspect at the home received what police have described as a "minor injury to his foot" after he was hit by a fragment.  He was treated at a local hospital and released.  His name has not yet been made available by police.

Others who were at the residence at the time of the incident are being questioned by police.

The officer who shot the dog has been placed on administrative leave as, authorities say, is standard procedure.

An undisclosed amount of drugs was recovered at the scene.  The investigation is continuing and a thorough search of the property will be conducted.

Police say that the suspect is expected to face multiple felony charges.

An incident on Howard Avenue is being investigated this morning.

WIBX has received information regarding a possible "shots fired" incident on the 1600 block of Howard Avenue this morning.  Utica Police have not confirmed that any shots were fired but have said that information on an incident is forthcoming.
