Utica, NY (WIBX) -  Brian Brown is standing trial this week for two local bank robberies last summer. Jury selection began this morning.

Brown faces a 12 count indictment which includes six counts of first degree robbery along with charges of aggravated attempted murder and aggravated assault of a police officer. Prosecutors say Brian Brown shot and wounded Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Burger who was chasing him on foot.

Police believe Brian and Ikiko Brown were behind the robberies of Bank of America in Utica last May, and NBT Bank in Rome last July.

Ikiko Brown pleaded guilty last year to his involvement in the two incidents and was sentenced to 30 years in state prison.

Deputy Burger was given the New York State Sheriff's Association Deputy of the Year Award. Burger is sharing the 2010 award with two other New York deputies who were wounded in the line of duty.
