Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi is reminding residents of new guidelines for the state's STAR property tax exemptions.

Registration for the program begins on Monday.

Brindisi says new legislation requries all homeowners receving a basic STAR exemption to register with the State Tax Department in order to receive the exemption in 2014 and subsequent years.

Residents applying for STAR for the first time and senior citizens receiving the enhanced exemption are not affected by the new registration requirement.

Brindisi says it's part of a new initiative to protect New Yorkers against inappropriate or fradulent exemptions.

Homeowners who have questions or need help applying for STAR exemptions can call Assemblyman Brindisi's office at 732-1055.
