Brindisi Helps Pass Legislation to Delay And Reform Common Core

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi announced the State Assembly has passed legislation he sponsored that would prevent certain Common Core test scores from becoming part of students’ permanent records.

The bill would delay the sharing of sensitive student data until July 2015 and give parents the ability to opt out of disclosing sensitive student information to third party vendors.

“It’s our job to do what’s right for our children,” Brindisi said. “Until our concerns about privacy are addressed and we have an assurance that their sensitive information will be used only for educational purposes, delaying the sharing of their sensitive data is in their best interest.”

The bill would also require the state education department to speed up its plan to look for new ways to eliminate unnecessary testing, ban standardized testing for pre-k through second grade and delay the use of test scores as a factor in student and teacher evaluations fro two years.
