Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi is urging the public to sign a petition to bring ride sharing services like Uber to Upstate New York.

Brindisi says the new petition drive is an important way for people to show support for ride sharing legislation, which he says is one of his priorities for 2017.

“It’s time to hail Uber for upstate New York. The Mohawk Valley and other regions are being left at the curb as the rest of the country drives by in the passing lane with this ride sharing service. A poll released by Uber last May showed 75 percent of Upstate New York residents support ride sharing services.  I believe there are some in the legislature who are tone deaf to this clear call to bring ridesharing apps like Uber upstate,” Brindisi said.

Brindisi says the absence of Uber is bad for the upstate region’s economy, because business travelers cannot use it.  He says the service is perfect for the Mohawk Valley, because many college students from out of the area come here without a car and need reliable transportation.

If Uber comes to the Mohawk Valley, the company has estimated that about 200 jobs would be created by the end of its first year here.
