Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi is sponsoring legislation that would establish the fourth Tuesday in June as New York's primary election day for both federal and state offices.

Combining the state and federal primary elections could save state and local governments about $50 million.

According to the Oneida County Democratic Elections Commissioner Russell Stewart, Oneida County would save over $117,000 by combining the primaries.

Herkimer County Democratic Elections Commissioner Audrey Dunning said Herkimer County would save about $59,000.

"By making primary day the same for federal and state elections, we save county taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars," Brindisi said.
