One local lawmaker is making sure high school students have all the financial tools they need to go to college.

Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi and the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation are hosting a Financial Aid Night at Mohawk Valley Community College.

"This is the time of year when parents and children are sitting down and filling out their financial aid forms," Brindisi said. "With college tuition always rising, it's important for parents and students to know what programs are available out there for them, in terms of financial aid."

Representatives from several colleges will meet with high school juniors and seniors to answer questions and fill out Free Application for Federal Student Aid forms.

"It's vital in today's job market that you have a college degree," Brindisi said. "So, this is an opportunity for students to get the financial aid information they need to apply for, and hopefully get, a college education."

The event is scheduled for the evening of January 31st, starting at 6 p.m. in room 225 of MVCC's Information Technology Building. For more information, call Brindisi's office at (315) 732-1055 or click here for other local events.
