Assemblyman Anthony Brindsi will be sponsoring a resolution on the floor of the State Assembly to honor the legacy of Helen Sperling.

Sperling, who was a Utica resident, died last September at the age of 95.

She was a native of Poland who lost most of her family during the Holocaust and was forced to work in Nazi death camps for a number of years.

After moving to the United States, Sperling began speaking about her experiences to students, and at churches and community organizations.

“Helen Sperling captivated countless school children through the years, recounting the atrocities she endured.  Ultimately, her story was one aimed at inspiring others to remain vigilant, and make sure that experiences like those she had to endure are never repeated again.  It is certainly appropriate that her very significant accomplishments should be recognized on the floor of the New York State Assembly,” Brindisi said.
