Utica, NY (WIBX) -Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi has written a letter to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, asking that the Hinkley Reservoir and surrounding areas be exempt from Hydrofracking.Brindisi says Hinkley is the sole source of drinking water for 130,000 residents in Oneida and Herkimer Counties.

He says if any of the streams or rivers that run into the reservoir became contaminated, it could potentially leave thousands of homes without clean tap water.

Brindisi also called for an extension of the public comment period on hydrofracking beyond December 12th.
