Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi is sponsoring legislation requiring the New York State Department of Transportation to publicly release their capital plans and project list before the state budget is passed.

He says the bill would improve accountability and transparency, so the public knows where their tax dollars are being spent.

Brindisi says in the past several years, the list of statewide projects has not been made available until months after the budget has been finalized.

Brindisi says the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is required to list proposed capital projects, and he'd like to see similar regulations for the DOT.

“Transportation is such a vital part of economic development, and in the day to day lives of most Mohawk Valley residents.  It is only appropriate that the plans for our state’s roads and bridges be given more transparency.

I am sponsoring this legislation, because I believe the public should know in advance where their tax dollars are spent when it comes to something as important as New York State’s future infrastructure plans,” Brindisi said.
